In early 2005, city officials decided to seek a privatw contractor to managethe city'e public access cable services. the city had managed the operationh itself, running a small studio out of city hall and usinvg city employees forthe work. But in July of the city will move to new office s in the Rio Rancho City Center nowundere construction, and the plans for the $15.88 million city hall do not include studii space for public access television. When the city firsty issued a request forproposalsd (RFPs) in 2005, it received no So it solicited proposals from several companies including Rio Rancho's , , and Albuquerque's .

Edit House co-owner Ed Smithu says he simply didn't feel his compan y could fulfill the contract withoutmore space. City Manager Jim Palenicik says the contractwas terminated, in part, due to Rio Grande'z slowness in seeking a Rio Rancho facility outsids of city hall, and a failurde to meet other conditions of the Rio Grande Studios' owners Michaelk Jacobs and Ruby Handler Jacobs counter that they lost the opportunityu to lease one desirable spacde because the city was slow in finalizingb the deal and say the contract was terminater for no cause.
Nonetheless, the contract is up for bid andthis time, there is quits a bit of interest.
