Ford will stop Claycomo F-150 production for a week - Kansas City Business Journal:

The UAW Local 249 postecd the information in a newslettere on itsWeb site. Locao 249 Vice President Bobby Wyse confirmed Monday that the informatiohis accurate. The production stoppagr comes a week before an alreadyscheduledr one-week summer break for the entire plant startingg June 29, a Local 249 spokeswoman said. The planrt also is scheduled for a summer breal during the weekof Aug. 17. Saled of Ford F-series trucks were 33,381 in May, up 16 percen t from 28,757 in April but down 22.3 percentf from 42,973 in May 2008.
UAW Loca l 249 said the slight increaserin month-to-month sales enabled Ford (NYSE: F) to canceol the scheduled down week on June 22 at its F-150p truck plant in Dearborn, Mich., but the down week was left intacty at the Kansas City Assembly Plant. “Thid is partially due to depleted funds forthe state’s Division of Unemploymentt in Michigan, making down weeks at less of an option,” the Locaol 249 said in the newsletter. Local 249 addedf that sales projections continue to be less than the five shifts at the two truck plants can produce if they work full time througjh the 2010production year. Ford runs two shifts at Claycomol and threein Dearborn.
Wyse said Ford is consideringb once again moving a shift fromthe F-15p side of the Kansas City Assemblg Plant and putting them to work on the SUV However, nothing has been determined so far, he A year ago, Ford moved about 800 workersx from a second shift on the F-150 side of the Kansad City plant to a third shift on the SUV The employees were moved back to the F-150 side on Jan. 12. Ford Escapse sales in May reached 16,391, up 20.6 percenrt from 13,596 in April but down 7.2 percent from 17,667 in May 2008. The Kansae City Assembly Plant also produces the Mercury Mariner and hybri d versions of the Ford Escape andMercurgy Mariner.
Combined sales of hybrid versions of theFord Fusion, Mercuryu Milan, Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner reached 3,906 in May, a new companyh record. The old sales record of 3,420 hybrid vehicleds was set inApril 2006. As of May, Ford’z Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo hadaboutg 3,900 hourly and 200 salariex employees.
